From the dereliction of bombsites and disused factories, Burgess Park has become a shining example of an ambitious regeneration programme. It covers 56 hectares. (One international rugby pitch is approximately one hectare, so it covers a huge area). It truly is a park fit for the 21
st century. The woodland, open spaces and beautiful lake offer the local community, visitors and tourists somewhere to retreat from the traffic and bustle of city life. The park appeals to all ages with play areas for the under-fives and an adventure playground for 8-16 years. Want something less energetic? Why not try fishing in the lake or wander around Chumleigh Gardens with examples of planting around the world. Traditional English, Islamic, Mediterranean, Oriental and Caribbean.
In addition to a superbly equipped conference and sports centre it offers:
- Cricket and football pitches
- Tennis courts
- Fishing
- Running
- BMX track
All these facilities are readily available to book. Time trial runs take place every week for fit and enthusiastic runners. The 400 metre BMX National standard track is open daily until 9pm with the exception of Mondays.
